Starting from a young age in Franklin, NC, Matt Brown took almost every unsupervised moment as an opportunity to cook. While pursuing a master’s degree in English literature, he quickly realized that he was most inspired in the kitchen, not by the pages of an original manuscript. On a whim, Matt left school and moved to New York City to follow his passion, where he was afforded the opportunity to hone his craft in some of the best restaurants in the city, including Daniel Boulud’s Bar Boulud, Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Tavern and Daniel Humm’s Eleven Madison Park. Matt then joined acclaimed chef Grant Achatz at Chicago’s Alinea before returning South to the region where his love of food and cooking began and joining Katie Button Restaurants in Asheville, NC.
Matt is the Chef de Cuisine at La Bodega by Cúrate, the all-day cafe, Spanish market and wine bar that was born out of the pandemic. At La Bodega, Matt combines his appreciation for Spanish culture and tradition with his passion for thoughtfully sourced, high-quality ingredients and the culinary techniques that let their natural flavors shine through.
