Chef Markie
Appearing at: Grand Tasting

Markie McCullough

The Ugly Dog Pub

Chef Markie is originally from the Chicagoland area, where she honed her craft in some of downtown Chicago’s finest restaurants. She later moved to Auburn, Alabama, where she helped open Acre, working as sous chef. From Auburn, she headed to Atlanta and spent four years as Chef de Cuisine at Two Urban Licks, where she also met her husband, fellow chef Matt Weinstein.

After her time at Two Urban Licks, Chef Markie joined the team at The General Muir before taking on a new opportunity that brought her to Highlands, NC, working as a traveling chef for Indigo Road. Eventually, she became the chef at Oak Steakhouse until she and her husband decided to move to Highlands full-time—at which point Chef Matt stepped into the role.

Chef Markie then spent two years traveling before choosing to stay rooted in Highlands, taking on the role of chef at the Ugly Dog Pub. A year later, she continues to lead the kitchen there while also managing the Fry Dive food truck at the High Dive.
